Attenuation Storage Tanks - Overview

Any structure that creates a below ground void that may be used to temporarily provide surface water storage prior to infiltration, whether reused or discharged in a controlled manner, are generally termed as attenuation storage tanks. They have significantly higher storage volume capacity than granular-filled structures and can be used beneath areas with a primary purpose other than drainage, including amenity, roads and parking areas.

The main benefits offered by attenuation storage tank systems are that they are able to provide:

• significantly higher storage volumes compared to granular filled structures
• have the ability to be installed beneath areas with a primary purpose other than drainage. These can include amenity (i.e. public open spaces), trafficked (i.e. roads or parking areas) or heavily loaded areas (i.e. ports); subject to suitable structural assessments being undertaken.
